Mandy: I have something to say to you.

Judy: What? What happened?

Mandy: I’m so fortunate to have you in my life!

Judy: Why do you say that to me so suddenly?!

Mandy: Since you’re such a barrel of laughs in my life! When I am down in the dumps, you always make me laugh.

Judy: Thank you for saying that! That’s music to my ears! I just think that real happiness consists in making others happy.

Mandy: I like the way you think! You do impress me.

Judy: You can do it as well! If you are out of sorts, I’ll be available for you. Let’s be happy bunnies together!

Mandy: You’re so sweet! I still remember the nights you spent with me when my ex-boyfriend cheated on me. Do you remember we let our hair down and enjoyed having a few drinks at the party?

Judy: You bet! We all had a ball at the party! I was over the moon when a guy hit on me at the bar. He was so cute!

Mandy: Wow, I’m so envious! I miss the days of partying in nightclubs!

Judy: Why don’t we go tonight?

Mandy: Good idea! I’ll be there - with bells on.

Steve: Welcome back! How was the honeymoon?

Carl: It was amazing! I’m well-rested and feeling like a ball of fire ready to work!

Steve: That’s good to hear! Let me bring you up to speed now. First of all, Oscar has been promoted to manager, so he calls the shots now.

Carl: Good for him! He works hard for that position and we all know it.

Steve: Exactly. Also, the bang-up job he did with the foreign company last month was a huge deal for the company. But…it seems that he has a bit too much on his plate. He just moved to the new community with his wife who is expecting their first child, so there's a lot of “getting used to” to do. Anyway, here’s the second thing, the deal with Far Eastern Group…it’s still at a freezing-point; we have made no progress whatsoever.

Carl: How!? It’s been weeks since we started discussing terms, right?

Steve: Yep, I wish we all could just get on the same page on the terms. Leslie, who’s in charge of the deal, told me the ball is in their court now and we’re just waiting for their reply, but I think the result will still be the same.

Carl: Well, what is Leslie going to do then?

Steve: Beats me. I heard the boss thinks we failed to strike a deal because she has been slacking off. But the fact is she’s been working so much that I’m afraid she’s going to burn herself out. So it’s not all rainbows and sunshine around here.

Carl: You don’t say.

Jerry: Hey, how’s it going? It’s been a long day since the last time I saw you, right?

Rock: It’s really been a long day huh?

Jerry: Do you have any plans for investment recently?

Rock: Hm…not really, why do you ask that?

Jerry: Actually, I have an amazing investment opportunity and this is going to be smart money.

Rock: Oh? Now I have some interest in it, tell me the details.

Jerry: I have heard that the government is going to rebuild the old town, so if we can buy the property before they rebuild it, we’re gonna get rich as hell. We'll be laughing all the way to the bank if this deal works out.

Rock: I’m not quite sure about it. Are you sure the rumor is true?

Jerry: Of course! When have I ever lied to you? This one is going to be as sound as a dollar.

Rock: Do you think I should break the bank for this?

Jerry: If I were you, I would get my money out at all costs.

Rock: I don’t know. You know I would rather make an honest buck than easy money.

Jerry: Of course! Just take your time but not too long because the chance will slip away if you don’t catch it!

Rock: All right, give me some time. This is going to be the biggest decision that I have ever made, so I think I have to discuss it with my wife.

Elsa: Hey. Have you heard that the celebrity couple, Jeffery Wang and Teresa Lin, got divorced?

Daisy: Sure! There’s been a hundred and one news about their divorce recently.

Elsa: They seemed to be a loved-up couple. I didn’t expect they would get divorced one day.

Daisy: Well, it has been said that Jeffery Wang is a two-timer since their first year of marriage. Besides, they’d been married for seven years. It’s about time they experienced the seven-year itch!

Elsa: The news about Jeffery Wang having an affair has never been confirmed. Journalists just put two and two together and make five.

Jeffery Wang

Daisy: Fine! Then what’s your guess at the reason for their divorce? Who should take the responsibility?

Elsa: Daisy…It’s meaningless to make a guess at such things.

Daisy: Aren’t you curious about why the couple you’d considered loved-up are divorced? Just make a guess!

Elsa: We’re all outsiders of their marriage. Only the couple themselves know the reason. All I can say is “It takes two to tango!” Both are responsible for the end of their marriage.

Daisy: Well. That makes sense! But...after a woman claiming to be Teresa’s friend cast the first stone at Jeffery about his indifference toward Teresa, people seem to take Teresa’s side.

Elsa: Yeah. Jeffery is behind the eight ball! He has been condemned and has lost five endorsements since then. Some people even say harsh words to his family.

Daisy: Good thing Teresa seems not to have the intention to say anything that is likely to place Jeffery at a disadvantage, otherwise he must lose more endorsements than he did.

Elsa: You’re right! Whether she was hurt in the relationship or not, it’s nice of her not to put Jeffery at a disadvantage. People should learn not to ruin our ex even if they hurt us because two wrongs don’t make a right.

Daisy: Anyway, hope people will stop discussing the news soon so that Jeffery as well as his family can be spared cyberbullying, and the couple can start their new lives soon.

Elsa: Believe me, people are quite ‘forgetful’ nowadays! Ten to one they will stop discussing the news a few days or weeks later.

(Sophia and Emily are in the Far West Department Store.)

Sophia: I haven’t gone shopping for three months. I’m so excited now.

Emily: So am I. Let’s shop till we drop.

Sophia: Sounds great. Look! The clothes here are dirt cheap

Emily: Exactly. Oh my goodness, is that jacket only NT$1000? It’s a good deal! I bought the same one in the Far North Department Store, but it cost me NT$2000.

Sophia: Are you kidding me? That cost you an arm and a leg.

Emily: That’s what I thought. I regretted buying it in that department store.

Sophia: Don’t be sad. Just remember to shop around next time! Hey, this dress looks very suitable for you. The clerk told me that it just hit the shops today.

Emily: Really? I’ll try it on.

-

Emily: It fits like a glove on me. I like it! Where’s the checkout counter?

Sophia: Hey, hold on. Look at the guy there, what is he doing?

Emily: Oh my gosh! He’s shoplifting the watch. We should tell the clerk right now.

Sophia: Ok, let’s go.

-

Emily: I didn’t expect that guy would refuse to admit shoplifting. He’s really a jerk. Fortunately, the police had access to surveillance cameras, or he’ll be innocent.

Sophia: Right, he will pay the price for his behavior. I can’t believe it takes two hours to make a statement to the police. It’s 2 pm now. I’m so hungry.

Emily: Me too. Let’s go get something to eat.

Sophia: That Thai restaurant looks tasty. Let’s have lunch there.

Emily: Ok!

好!

Sophia: I’m stuffed. I can’t finish the dessert. I need to take some doggy bags. Are you finished?

Emily: Yes. I’m full.

Sophia: Ok. Let me pick up the tab. Thank you for shopping with me today.

Emily: It was nothing. I’m happy to go shopping with you, too. Let’s get together next time!

Sophia: Absolutely! Did you know that “Doctor Strange 2” came out last week? Maybe we can see that movie this Friday!

Emily: Really? I have been looking forward to the sequel for a long time, but I have promised my mother to take care of my little brother…

Sophia: Oh, that’s too bad! Can we take a rain check? How about next Friday?

Emily: Ok!

David: What’s up man, why do you look like you are having the blues?

Jeff: It’s a long story.

David: You can tell me, maybe I can help you.

Jeff: I don’t think that you can help with this one, but I’ll tell you anyway.

David: Alright.

好吧

Jeff: Actually, I’m in the red right now.

David: What!? Why?

Jeff: Because of covid, I lost my job. I’m totally in the dark.

David: So do you find any chance of getting a new job?

Jeff: Not yet. Although I’ve tried to cast my resume everywhere I can cast. There’s no response.

David: It just happened out of the blue!

David: I'm sorry to hear that. But maybe this could be your golden opportunity, we all know that this job is not going to have a future.

Jeff: But I still have to pay the rent.

David: You can come live with me for a while until you find your next job.

Jeff: Really!? That will be great! Thank you so much.

David: Come on, we are bff, it’s just a small thing.

Josh: Mark, why are you still at home? Don’t you have to work today?

Mark,

Mark: Oh…I quit my job. My boss is a hard nut to crack. She was never satisfied with my proposals and constantly said I wasn’t worth my salt.

Josh: But you are deep in debt…fine. Have you started finding a new job?

Mark: Don’t worry. I’ve decided to open a beverage store. People nowadays love beverages, so I must be able to pay off my debts in just a few months.

Josh: Your plan is totally pie in the sky! Starting a business isn’t a piece of cake, let alone making a fortune in a short time.

Mark: Just you wait! I must make a fortune and make you eat your words!

Josh: Fine. Don’t ask me for help anymore!

(Mark got a message.)

(Mark

Mark: Damn it! I got a message from Bella, saying she just found the real estate agent she introduced to me wasn’t really an agent…

Josh: Come on, I’ve told you to take her words with a grain of salt many times!

Mark: I’m toast…I’ve invested all my money in renting a storefront.

Josh: Dude, how could you put all your eggs in one basket? Use your noodle before taking action, alright?

Mark: Josh, I’m genuinely sorry for what I said before! Tell me what to do, please?

Josh,

Josh: Hmm, it’s hard to take your money back, but it's no use crying over spilled milk. Go find a job that can really be your bread and butter right now!

Mark: Okay, I’ll listen to you.

Kevin: Hey, Jennifer, do you know there will be an exam next week? It must be hard because professor Chen set the examination questions; I have ants in my pants.

Jennifer: Holy cow! Why didn’t I know that? I didn’t prepare for it. If I could pass it, pigs might fly.

Kevin: I am also worried about whether I can pass it. I heard that professor Chen had a cow and told Jack to write lines five hundred times since he didn’t pass the exam last time.

Jennifer: Are you serious? It sounds like a cock-and-bull story.

Kevin: It’s unbelievable, right? There’s another gossip. I remembered that Jack horsed around in professor Chen’s class so she gave him a time-out for three hours in the first grade.

Jennifer: I can’t believe you remembered it. You really have the memory of an elephant! But I also have the impression that Jack is usually in the dog house.

Kevin: Right, a leopard can’t change its spots.

Jennifer: Return to our point, what should we do about the exam?

Kevin: Maybe we can study and discuss it together in the library which is a catty-corner in the school we could go to.

Jennifer: That’s a good idea! Let’s go there now.

Kevin: Hold on, it’s raining cats and dogs outside but I forgot to bring the umbrella.

Jennifer: Don’t worry. I have two ones, here you are.

Kevin: Thank you!

Lily: Honey, are you alright? You have not eaten for one day.

Stella: (Crying…)

Lily: Don’t cry, honey! What happened? I’m all ears.

Stella: There is a very important presentation at school today. I had butterflies in my stomach before the presentation started and totally forgot what I prepared beforehand.

Lily: I know you broke your neck to prepare the presentation, and what was the result?

Stella: I was so nervous to screw the pooch that I farted during the presentation on the stage… After class, Jason kept bringing this up and pulled my leg

Lily: It was no wonder that you had such a long face when I saw you in school.

Stella: Jason is a real pain in the neck. He made my blood boil today.

Jason

Lily: Forget about it! He doesn’t deserve you. At least you've finished the important presentation today, and it must be a huge weight off your shoulders

Stella: Actually. I tried to eat sweet food to forget the bad thing.

Lily: You have a sweet tooth! Keep your chin up, honey. I believe you can get a better performance next time.

Stella: Thank you, Lily. I got something off my chest and I felt great right now.

Lin: Hey, what happened to Lisa, why is she shaking like a leaf?

Lisa

Shaun: She’s scared stiff about giving a presentation to the boss. You know how insecure she is; she’s afraid of her own shadow.

Lin: Oh I see. Hope she prepared well, the boss hates presentations that are unconfident. And you know he’s got a quick temper.

(After 10 minutes)

Shaun: She’s out! How did it go, Lisa?

Lisa?

Lisa: I got scolded hard because I didn’t answer confidently, but I was just so afraid that I might rub him up the wrong way. When he was scolding me, I didn’t know what to do except being reduced to tears. Is he going to fire me for this?

Lin: Oh course not! Don’t get your knickers in a twist, he might get mad easily, but he also forgets them pretty quickly. So don’t take this too hard, all right?

Shaun: You can learn from this, but don’t let this knock you sideways. Sadder but wiser, right?

Lisa: I don’t want to leave a bad impression on him.

Lin: Come on, let’s go get a drink, let off some steam, then you’ll see it’s nothing but a storm in a teacup.
